Body Pump Tonight

Thanks for your kind words.

I know I am doing very well at the moment pretty good, but what I haven't mentioned is the junk food I have been eating lately, those little snacks here and there, that are basically just empty calories.

A chocolate bar here, an ice cream there. Or a flavoured milk. You know those sliders that the band doesn't stop us for too long :)

It has been these little cheats along the way that I have been hiding not only from you, but from myself. And the quote on Jack's blog, just brought it home to me. I am only cheating myself and I don't want to do that anymore. So if I am going to eat the stuff I know I isn't helping me, I am at least going to be honest enough to write them down too!!

A smidge away from 30 kilos down and I am finally getting serious about myself. Hence the body attack class last night and the body pump class tonight.

I love the group classes at the gym. I get such a better workout than if I was doing the exercises myself. I tend to be fine with the cardio on my own. it is a great time to think and enjoy the music, but the strength is so much easier when I have someone telling what to do. and the cardio classes do push me that extra mile :)

So today's accountability:
Exercise: 1 hour Body Pump Class
Food: B: nuts, skinny cap; L - grilled pumpkin salad with small bit of spaghetti bolognaise; D - chicken drumstick and vege, S - banana and a magnum ice cream = Total Calories: 1185
Water: still not enough
Cello: 1/2 hour practice

Self Accountability

I am doing well, but I could do better. I was reading random posts @ Jack Sh*t's and came across the following quote (can't remember which post though):

"I haven’t necessarily fallen off the wagon, but I seem to be dragging my feet off the side lately"

And I thought this is me at the moment, has been for a while now. I am still doing well and keeping most things on track, but I am dragging my feet off the side.

To help with this, or at least I hope it will help; I am going to try a bit of self accountability and post my daily exercise, food, water and cello practice - the last is because I need to keep the balance of the cello in my life as it really does bring me a lot of joy (when I play).

So for the first day, here it is:

Exercise: 1 hour Body Attack Class
Food: B 1/2 filling from ham cheese tomato s/w; skinny cap, L - grilled pumpkin salad with chicken D - spaghetti bolognaise, S - nuts and a few girl guide cookies = Total Calories: 973
Water: not enough
Cello: No practice :(

Cherry on Top Award

A big thanks to Justine for this award :-)

The question that goes with this award is: If you had one chance to go back and change one thing in your life, would you and what would it be?

The one thing I would change is my lack of interests in sport and exercise. If I had been interested in it as a kid, I would think I would have been less likely to get so overweight in my teenage and adult years. As it is I know like the gym, but I am not a sports fan. And it is still very easy to talk myself out of the gym.

And for the six bloggers I am going to nominate; I am going to follow her and Tina's shining example and nominate bloggers with less than 100 followers:

Black Band Chic @
Kellie @
Angela @
Banded Mommy @
V @
Sue @

I know there are many more of the wonderful blogs that I follow that have less than one hundred followers, but I hope this new trend continues and we all support each other.

There is a Newbie...

I came across a newly banded blog and she could use our support. I so remember when I first started and did have many followers. It still makes my day every time I see the number climb :)

Black Band Chic's blog Only two weeks after operation and she is starting her bandster hell as she is starting to get some cravings for her past favourites.

In other news, It sounds like everyone had a blast in Chicago. I am green with envy. I will make it to one of these events. Even if I have to swim there :DHave a great week and can't wait to see all the great pictures from everyone.

I Owe, I Owe...

It's off to work I go ;)

What can I say, it is 6:00 am in the morning, and here I sit at the station waiting for a train to work.

It's raining too.

In much happier news, every thing I own is big on me. I need to go shopping for some clothes, but I really don't like the idea of buying clothes that are only going to fit for a little while.

Maybe I should try some op-shops? That may find me a few things. The real problem is that I have no real idea on what size I am any more. And as my mother says, getting me into a shop to try clothes on is harder than pulling fingernails :P

I still have a problem with this. I should just give it a go. I may even like it know that I will fit into the clothes :)

This is my delema for the week-end.

Tonight I'm of to see the Queensland Korean Orvestra, should be good. They are playing the Elgar cello concerto. One of my all time favourite pieces of music. Ever since I heard Jacqueline de Pre play the music in a doco I have been addicted to it. I wish I had been able to see her play in real life.

Have a great weekend and I'll be back soon :)

Go-Chica-Go comes to an end...

I have to say a huge thank you to everyone for all your wonderful comments.

I did have a lovely birthday, didn't get up to too much. just had lunch with my Mum, we went to a lovely little cafe restaurant down at Redcliffe "The Rustic Olive" a wonderful Italian place. We had a calzone for a starter (I ate a quarter of a small serve) and then fettuccine royal - prawn, bacon and mushrooms in a creamy tomato sauce (I only ate about a tenth of an entree size)

Thankfully, this place did take-aways so they had no problem wrapping the left over up for us. You should have seen the waitresses face, she kept coming over to see if the meal was okay because I barely touched it. She looked very surprised when I asked it to be bagged and that I was full. I found myself wondering what she was thinking:

Did she think I had already eaten before I got there?
Did she know about gastric banding and wondered if that was why?

All these thought go through my head when ever I don't do what I used to do. If that makes any sense.

Can I just say that I have never had so many people wish me happy birthday, that is a wonderful aspect of the blogging community that I had not really expected, so again a very big thank you to everyone.

Now the Go-Chica-Go Challenge ends today and the end result for me is 29 workouts, I only missed 7 days out of the 36 days of the challenge, so I am very happy with that.

P.S. I hope all you BOOBs have a wonderful time. Remember we want photos. We merry few that couldn't make it need to live vicariously through those that do go:)

From the phone

So basically I am just seeing how this app works with my new phone. It really is amazing how technology works these days.
I will need to see if I can add photos and other things as well to the post, but for now I just wanted to see how it goes.

Six Months

I didn't make the six month goal that I was sort of aiming for.

But when I stop and think about it 29.2kg (64.4lb) in six months is nothing to turn your nose up at. I could not be happier with my journey so far and I know I am not yet done. It is AWESOME that I have lost this much weight. I have never been this successful before.

I feel so much better about me and my life. I look at myself and no longer just see the fat person. I also see the person I am becoming.

I even miss the gym when I can't make it. I look for ways to fit exercise into my life. Now this is still only a new thing and has only happened in the last week or two but I am liking it and hope it continues for the rest of my life :)

Just a quick one today. I am off to have some birthday fun!! (Yes it is also my b'day today - that was a fluke in the surgery scheduling department:)) Hope everyone has a great day.

Step and facebook

Well I did my first Body Step class this morning.

Was both a lot of fun and totally exhausting. I can definitely see myself doing more of them. I am very uncoordinated, especially with new things but I got there and had a lot of fun. I felt like I was going to pass out once or twice from the routine, but I was really happy with myself for getting through the whole class. I just stayed on the level one options and went a bit slow than most in some of the faster bits. I was also very impressed with the instructor. She knew that I was a newbie - so she knows her students - and came up to me before the class began and made sure I knew how to use the step properly and were to put my feet and made sure I was positioned behind someone who knew what they were doing so that I had a good view of the instructor and a pro.

Also I have joined up with Facebook, even stumbled across a badge for my blog :) Don't know how that will go, but I am getting a new phone and the plan I am going to be on includes unlimited facebook, so I thought why not. I accept any hints on getting the most from it and would love to be friends :P

Hope everyone had a great week-end (and did not have to work like I did today). Tomorrow another working week begins.

Drazil's BYOC for the week

1. Last week we asked your favorite thing about being an adult. This week the question is: what is one thing you miss about being a child?
I miss the Saturday morning cartoons and care free life. Now it is all work, bills and the morning cartoons these days just are not as good. There all fighting ones these days, bring back the Smurf's I say!!

2. When you make a serious life decision – do you use your head or your heart?
I would probably say my heart. I tend to think alot about the decision until I nearly make myself sick and then just jump in head first with whatever comes out of my mouth :)

3. In relation to blogs….are you a never commenter, a sometimes commenter, an almost always commenter or a direct emailer kinda person?
I am a sometimes commenter, it does depend on how busy I am and the mood I am in. If I am feeling down, I tend to not comment so much as I get that awlful feeling that nothing I say matter's, thankfully that doesn't happen too often anymore. Lately my lack of comments is due to how busy I am!!

4. If life was a flavor – would it be savory, sweet or sour?
I have to say that like all things in life, it has to be a mixture of all three :)

5. Repeat question. Summarize your week in life or in blogland.
My blogland week has been a real catch up and chasing my own tail. I think I am finally getting there. Oh; and I have been getting real jealous of all you wonderful ladies about to have a great time in Chicago :)

I Heart My Band

I just took the train home with a friend after some Friday Night Drinks with work mates. I had four vodka and oranges and was a little tipsy to say the least.

At the train station we stopped off at McDonalds. I got a Mac Snack Wrap

And she got a McDouble Cheeseburger. It took me fifteen minutes to eat this little wrap and I was done. Satisfied. When she finished her burger, she said it had just wet her appetite and was really hungry for a full dinner.

If I think back to six months ago; I would have said the exact same thing. After a few drinks; a stop at McDonald's would have been a huge meal that included a Big Mac, 6 nuggets, a large fries and drink, plus an apple pie for dessert.

Don't even think about the money I just saved with this meal.

Think about the amount of food:
One small wrap compared to a huge feast of fat, sugar and more fat.

I had never really thought about it like this before. I knew the band had drastically cut my portions, but in real terms of the level of crap I can actually eat, it is so hard to imagine and comprehend the difference between now and then. I actually never thought it would stop me binging when I was tipsy. But tonight I ate slowly and enjoyed my wrap and it was enough.

And that; my friends, is just one of the reasons why I love my band.

Thousand Word Thursday

From Amy: Your favorite piece of jewelry. (And if you are like me, you can post more than one.) And why it's your favorite!

This ring was designed by me for me :) Obviously it was after I started playing the cello and I became obsessed in all things cello and the bass clef. I don't know what I am going to do when I loss all my weight as I will have to get it re sized and that could cost a bit as the band is a bit thick. There are already days when it is lose enough that it slides on and off with ease (but it is not falling off). At this stage it is only every now and then but in the not too distant future I can tell it will need to be re sized.

In the small world of me, I am going well and trying to stick to the healthy eating. I had a great workout at the gym this morning. And I have signed up for a training club at work. It will just be once a week for ten weeks, but it will be outside group exercises, a bit like boot camp training.

The food is even going alright. Breakfast has been half a banana before the gym and a tub of yogurt after it. I have been getting in lots of water and I even had this fantastic salad from Green Bean Salad Bar yesterday with roast pumpkin, chick peas, artichoke and other goodies, I had some broiled chicken with it. A friend at work went halves in it with me and we both got a big healthy lunch. The only thing is, I ate a bit too much :) Those salads are huge. I will definitely be getting it again, and I will definitely be sharing it again.

It's back....

Yeah!!!! It appears I have Internet again!!!

It is going to take me forever to catch up on what everyone has been up to and I missed the Thousand Word Thursday and BYOC from last week, so I may do those together later if I get a chance :)

I just got back from the gym. Thanks to everyone for your comments, the gym certainly has helped get me kick started again. I am enjoying it and today I spent a whole 10 minutes on the cross trainer and didn't die of exhaustion. I covered the display with my towel and just kept going for a few songs. When I checked I had done the ten minutes I was aiming for. It is amazing how different it felt to last time when I was looking at the time. It was like every second was a whole minute long. So I think I have discovered a way to get me through it:)

I have been thinking (dangerous, I know) and as 22nd September will not only be my birthday, but also my 6 month bandiversary and I am really close to the 30 kilos down mark, I am going to aim to be there by my birthday. I am not going to get down if I don't make it, but I think it will be good for me to have something like this to aim for. I think it is achievable, but I will definately have to work for it.
I am off to work and then to spend as much time tonight as i can, catching up. Have a great day:)

Still No internet and Weigh In

I still have no internet so this will be reall quick as I am about to start work.

Weigh in was yesterday and the results were:

123.7kg (272.1 lb) that is down 1.3kg (2.9 lb)

The gym is working:) Yaa Woo!!!!

Friday, September 10, 2010

Had no Internet access at home yesterday; so I am behind on all my blog reading. :(
Didn’t realise just how much I relied on my nightly fill of blogging updates until I did not have access.

I am hoping it will be back up and running by tonight, it still wasn’t working this morning, so I have to wonder how long it may last. I rang Telstra to see what was wrong. They were very polite when telling me there was nothing they could do. There is a problem in my area and they are working on it. Just keep checking the Internet light on your modem. So helpful :P

Thanks to Miss Vickie and Pie for your kind words of encouragement after my last post. I know it was only one day (two if I count yesterday, but more on that in a sec), it was just frustrating that I was doing it. I was basically just blindly eating and not thinking about it.

Now on yesterday; it wasn’t much better.

At work we had a spontaneous farewell morning tea for one of the guys that is going on a long overseas holiday. It was basically just an excuse to have a little food party at work. It has been a bit tedious here lately and we just needed a pick-me-up party.

So yesterday’s food consisted of cheese, fruit, dips and crackers and I also had a small bit of cake and two choc bikkies.

I am happy that I had a lot more fruit and cheese than I did the dip, cake and choc, but I did eat too much. We were all grazing all day and that type of eating that the band isn’t really able to help with (although I did eat a lot less than what I used to eat, so that is something).

And I didn't get to the gym, but I did go for a walk instead. Still a workout, but I find I do not work as had on an outside walk as I do at the gym. It has something to do with seeing all the fit people around me. They are intimidating, but also motivating because I want to be just like them.

I am doing this post at work, so I best sign off before they catch me:) Hope to catch up more tonight. Have a great day.

A day in the life of a bandster...

What can I say? Today I was dealing with a lot of head hunger and I did give in. I always seem to give in. I think today it had a lot to do with mt protein intake has been a little to low lately.
Today's meals:
8:00am Breakfast: Skinny Cappuccino 93/9
10:00am Snack: Zucchini slice 271/15
12:00noon Lunch: Crackers with salmon dip and avocado 310/6
2:00-3:00pm Snack: Pack of chips and a snack pack of mini cookies 372/5
5:00pm Snack: Ice cream block 181/1
7:00pm Dinner: Pork lion (about 80grams) and just over a tablespoon of peas and corn veges 202/32
Daily Total: Calories: 1429 / Grams of Protein: 68

Looking at this written down I have realised when I don't eat protein I feel hungry every two hours or so. Where; if I had had an egg dish instead of the zucchini slice at 10am I probably would not have eaten anything else until about 2pm.

Breakfast has just been a cappuccino as my last fill has made eating early in the morning a little difficult, even though I am still hungry in the morning. It just isn't worth that tight, almost stuck, feeling I get. I even have to go really slow on yogurt, so at the moment I just stick to the coffee.

Can I please ask why we do not do the small things that help with our journeys?

We all know we need to eat protein with every meal and yet there are still days (after 4 1/2 months) were I don't, and then wonder why I am eating crap like chips and mini cookies.

I am just glad I actually realised what I was doing today. I hope that I will be able to stop days like today happening again. the more aware I am of what I am eating, the better.

It doesn't help that I skipped out on going the gym yesterday either. I was tired and talked myself out of it.  I don't like that I did that, I didn't even get to bed any earlier, so I was still just as tired today. But I went to the gym today and did my cardio workout. Hopefully I will sleep well tonight because of it.

Speaking of which I guess I should get going. I need a shower and want to read some blogs before bed. Thanks for reading the ramblings of a bandster who is trying to work out what she is supposed to be doing:)

No Gym for the Week-end:(

The week-end is almost at an end and I feel exhausted. This has been my weekend to work and I have not enjoyed it at all. What makes it worse is that my hours have been 8 – 3:30pm and as the gym is only opened 8 – 4pm on the week-ends – I could not even make it there. This has pointed out jut how limiting my week-end working roster is. Even if I was to work the morning shift and I would finish at 2:30pm I would still not have enough time to get to the gym as I do not get home until 3:30 at the earliest.

Good news is this didn’t fully stop me today. I got to work earlier than expected, so instead of just sitting at my desk, I went for a walk around town. That added 30 minutes of exercise to my week-end and a workout to the Go-Chica-Go challenge:) have to be happy with that.

In other news I ventured near the scale his morning and was not impressed. My official weight day will not be until next week as I have decided to only record my weight every two weeks – hoping to avoid the fluctuations of the scale.

That being said I still check every now and then. This morning it was up a kilo from last week. I don’t know if this is because I have started a more vigorous exercise program (you know – actually sweating when I work out) or if because I have so much restriction I am not eating enough at the moment and my body just needs to re-adjust. I can not believe that I am eating too much. Not when I look at what I am eating. Friday night I only had one tenderloin from Nando’s with maybe a cup of salad and that was it.

I know one thing I am really going to have to stop is the slider treats I have been having lately. I know, even as I type this; it is history repeating itself. It wasn’t too long ago that I went sugar free for a week to combat the treat binges I was sliding into. And I have been much better, but as I have been a little tight with this wonderful restriction I am currently experiencing I have been having an ice cream block here and there. Okay I will be honest and say that I have had one every day this week, but in my defence…okay I have no defence. It’s a treat I can eat when I am not even hungry. It is all about the decedent taste sensation and knowing I am not going to have any problems with it going down.

So far my journey has not really required a lot of work on my part. I know that is a terrible thing to say, but it is true. Just cutting back on portion sizes and not eating total crap has got me a third of the way to my goal.

I think it has finally begun to sink in that from here on in I am going to have to work on my journey to continue to loss the weight. That is really quite scary. Because now it really is up to me.

Return of the infamous BYOC

1. In the spirit of back to school time - what is your favourite school supply?

*As a total stationary addict, I would have to say notepads; and pens; and diaries; and; and you get the drift

2. Assume your house is on fire and the whole thing is going to burn to the ground and your loved ones are out and safe….and you have a few minutes to grab 5 things. Just five. What would they be?

* My Cello of course.
* My External Hard drive – it has ll my pictures on it
* The photo albums – because I till have not gotten around to putting all the old family photos onto my computer (I will have to do this soon now as you have me worried about it all)
* My framed cross-stitches – because that is just too many hours of work to be able to do again
* Bra - because the thought of all those good looking fire men being at my house and to not be wearing a bra would be enough for me to run back into the burning house

3. In the spirit of my new found love on vacation – what is your favourite drink – alcoholic or not?

Alcoholic would probably be Baileys on ice – nice and smooth. Non-alcoholic would be choc-mint milkshake

4. When is your birthday (if you want to say, no year needed) and what is your Zodiac sign. Does your sign match your personality?

September 22. It puts me on the edge of being a Virgo

Traits of a Virgo:

Modest and shy - Yep
Meticulous and reliable – Pretty much
Practical and diligent – I like to think so
Intelligent and analytical – Again, I like to think so
Fussy and a worrier – it is true
Overcritical and harsh – of myself more than anything
Perfectionist and conservative – at least at the things I do (I just wish this trait was also true for my house – I can never keep it clean and tidy)

5. A little spin on my repeat question. I usually ask which blog or comment stuck with you and why? You can answer that as usual or how about just giving a summary of your week or how you feel about blogland this past week or anything you noticed…does that make sense?

*I feel as though all week I have been behind the eight ball all week with blogs. I know it is because I have joined the gym and I need to balance the time between workouts; cello practice and blog reading, cello has fallen to the way side this week, so I do need to be a little bit more even with it all, otherwise I just know I will stop going to the gym if I am not careful.

Thousand Word Thursday and so on...

Due to time differences and me not being able to have access to the net at work, I have only just been able to get to Amy's Thousand Word Thursday.

Let's celebrate our own beauty and how wonderful we all look with a photo of your favorite feature (on your own body and not X-rated, please, Draz!)
My hand when I am playing the Cello:)
I do need to work on the double jointedness in my little finger as it should not look like that:P

In other news, I made it to the gym today and even thought the blister on my foot was still causing my pain I pushed through it and spent 20 minutes on the treadmill; 20 minutes on the bike and 5 minutes on the cross trainer (how do you girls spend an hour on this thing). I even ventured onto the cardio climber for a few minutes. That is one scary contraption:)

So here I sit happy; but exhausted. Now I am off to read the blogs and catch up on all the gossip:)

Wednesday, September 1, 2010

So far I am loving the restriction I have been feeling since my fill last Thursday.

I may have said good-bye to bread, I'm not 100% sure, we will have to wait and see. All I know is that since the fill I have been eating really small amounts and it has been keeping me full for longer.

Sunday I had KFC for dinner. I seriously only had 2 of the wicked wings and three small pieces of popcorn chicken and was full, I ate four chips, and than stopped because I didn't need them. I was full.

The only bad thing I have to report is besides the KFC on Sunday night, I also had pizza for dinner on Monday night; two small pieces of Pizza Caper's Lambada. It was very yummy and very filling. Their crusts don't bother me, I can eat them no problem - I just take it slow:)

Dinner was improved greatly last night though - no take out for me. Home cooked chicken leg with peas and corn on the side. Again, I was so surprised at how little I was able to eat. Only about three quarters of the meat of the leg and less than a quarter cup of the veges.

I thought I was at a good level before this fill and would just need a tweak. I don't know, I just pray that my restriction as it is at the moment stays:)

On the gym front: I have a very big and deep blister :( and it hurts :(

It happened on Monday when I did an aerobics class, I had a rest from the gym yesterday, but did go back today after work. I was still able to do 10 minutes on the rower and on the bike, but only managed 10 minutes (not 20) on the treadmill. The heel was just got too sore I could barely walk on it. I have a special blister bandaid on it and when I am not wearing shoes it is fine, but I think the shoe just puts pressure on it in just a way that it kills.

It is not going to stop me though, I will return to the gym tomorrow:)

Now I am off to read all in bandland!! Have a great night.
