Photography..... A Hobby

I have been thinking about photography a lot lately. I love taking photos and when I do, I like the results. I was thinking of joining one of the 365 projects on Flickr, or even a 52 week project, but I have decided that I just don't want that pressure, so for the first year, you guys will be my audience...if you don't mind.

I was thinking along the lines of Funky Foto Friday or Sam's Sunday Snaps, then realised actually Sunday may work out better because I am usually home every Sunday, more often than on Friday's and I will need my home computer to do this, because as much as I love my iPad, I am not very impressed with the photo applications on it. It's great for storage and displaying the photo's, but I can't download to websites from it and the blogging app I'm using doesn't allow for me to adjust the image at all. I can add a photo to a post. That's it.

So Sunday will have the first edition on Sam's Sunday Snaps.

I have borrowed a list from some of the photo projects that I found, a list of themes for each week, I love the idea of the project, I just know I wouldn't be able to come up with something new every week, especially to begin with, so I will use the list as a guideline and that way I can adjust as I go. Who knows, I may have no trouble coming up with an idea, at least this way I have a fall back plan.

Now the basic rules are as follows:
~ They have to be new photos taken during the week.
~ Can only post one photo a week for this project.
~ This isn't a self-portrait project, but can include them.

Simple aren't they.

As this is a new start for me, I will have the first photo topic be "newness". And during this week I'm going to design a little button for my project... and I'm also working on a new blog for it too, it should be ready to go by Sunday :o)

Now in band news, I am doing okay, but have failed miserably on the exercise goal this month. I didn't make the right choices. Looking back I probably should not have cancelled the gym membership on the wetest month of the year, but it doesn't change the fact that I could not get there when I needed to. I'm looking into the 24 hour gyms around me and will hopefully be able to join one of them sooner rather than later. Time is not on my side though. I still need to get there when they are staffed to check it out in person, cause as usual, most of their websites don't offer a lot of I depth info.

Food wise, I am off the wagon where chocolate is concerned. February is going to be no chocolate month! I have to stop it. Some of you are addicted to Mountain Dew or Sunkist or Coke. I don't have a problem with those. I do have a big problem with chocolate.

The latest culprit is

It was not even a week ago that I mentioned to someone that I'm glad they had not brought this one back, because I LOVE it, and then I was in the shop on Saturday and BANG, there it was, before I could stop myself it was in the basket and I was through the check outs.

It was a bad choice and one I have to now work off.

And looking back over the last few paragraphs, I would have to say that I am not doing well on the band front! Does it count that when I am not eating chocolate I'm am doing very well food wise, and although I am not doing the planned exercise, I have increased my incidental movement a lot?

I know it's not much, but it is a heck of a lot better than the old me. And I will be doing better in both these departments.

At least my water is still on track :o)

Okay, I have gone on for way too long, have a great Monday everyone!

The things we do for friends

Okay I am a little tipsy at the moment so I hope this doesn't ramble too much!

Yes it is Wednesday night and I had some beers, you see tomorrow is Australia day :o) no work for me!

The last few days have been a nightmare at work, and as much as I don't want to admit it, it has been affecting my food choices and it has been affecting my commitment to exercise.

I work in a call centre, but I don't get a lot of calls come through at this time of the year. My department is groups, and most of them are sorted for the time being, give it another month or two and I will be rushed off my feet!

At the moment my work is under control, that being said, my team is being slammed at the moment! They deal with the packages and accommodation side of things and to be honest it has been brutal, staff sick, on training courses and a lot of in coming calls do not make for a productive work place. They are just dealing with too much at the moment. My friend J has been working twelve hour days and is beyond treading water at the moment. So after work I dragged her away from her desk and we went to the pub! Couple of beers and some pizza later and I think she had a good night and may actually get some sleep! One can only hope.

Now while I haven't been extra busy like they have, I do feel for them, and have been helping out where I can. I was answering call yesterday and taking messages for the team (hopefully weeding out the crap for them), and today I was really able to offer moral support as I had to catch up with my own work after yesterday but it sort of made me feel worse, because I know how stressed they all were.

These last few days have showed me how I still deal with stress through food. I wish I was able to deal with stress another way!

I used to do kick boxing classes and it is days like today that I really do miss it. At the time I was on a weight loss through exercise regemine and was going about three classes a week. It was such a stress busted. I haven't seen any places around me here is Brisbane but I think I need to search them out, because even through I didn't loss a lot of weight (too much eating along with the extra exercise) I really got a lot out of the stress busting factor!

It would be nice if there was a class that was close to either home or work that fit into my schedule! Most of the things I want to do are either too far away or are only on when I have work!

Queensland can still feel like it is in the dark ages at times, especially with its opening times :p

Okay, I think I have rambled enough in my tipsy state! Have a great Australia Day tomorrow to all my Aussie friends!!!

Rainy Tuesdays are no Fun

Not much on today. I didn't sleep so well last night, and i think it was because of dinner!

I made spaghetti bolangnaise and added some mushrooms that were a little old and dry. Usually that has not caused problems I have done it before. But since evry early this morning, bad wind pains have been hitting me :/ not too bad that i could sleep, just bad enough that it woke me up a few times and was very oticable once awake.

On the train to work now and there are still little spasms going on every now and then. I'll see how I go. Don't know what is going on lately, but nothing really is feeling right lately.

I wish there was a reset button on me. Maybe that would help :o)

It's raining again here in Brisbane, small localised floods have been happening, nothing major. I really am not a fan of lots of rain, and not because of flooding; because I cant throw the ball for Blondie! She misses being able to run around the yard! It's not hat i don't mind if she gets wet, it the fact that there is a small pond rowing in our back year and the fact that the grass gets so soft, that when she runs on it, she tears it all up!

So she continually drops her ball at your feet and looks at it to you mornfully. Trying to will you to throw the ball. I hate saying no to her, but i just have to. The only solution I have is giving her extra cuddles and pats, which she also loves, but would much prefer to be running around outside :o)

This is her ball.....

And this is the look she gives you when you wont throw it for her and is resigned to the fact that you are not going to change your mind.

And this is how she loves spending her none running time...staring at the ball at your feet waiting for you to throw it again. This is what i couldn't do this morning, or yesterday.

And this is the disdained look I frequently get from Charlie to show what she thinks of the dog and her ball antics :o)

Have a great Tuesday, even I am starting to feel a little better! (cute cat and dog pics really work for me!!!)

I Suck at Planning, but had a Great Saturday Night

So maybe not completely, I did fine during the day on Saturday, but have spent the evening drinking with the gals (J & M) from work and enjoying great home cooked meat pies, and tiramisu moose :o) it was a great girl's Saturday night without the really loud music if we had gone out.

Sunday morning, I had a little bit of a hangover and a bit dehydrated.

Nothing that a good healthy breakfast (later that morning) and the harsh reality of a full shift at work won't cure :o) Yes, I am working a full 7 & 1/2 hours on a Sunday, the good news is it is great over time, the bad news is it is day six of an eleven day work stretch. And I just can't call in sick today, cause I'd feel way to guilty :p

Now I did weigh in on Friday like I was supposed too.

And as expected I had done a little bit too much damage before I reined myself in to see a loss. The number was 111.4kg or 245.6lbs so that is up 0.7kg or 1.5lb. Could be worse, but should have been a lot better.

The good news is I am still fully committed (even if my saturday night may have you thinking I'm off the wagon again) I am not! Other than the lots of liquid calories, oh yeah and the dessert, saturday night was very healthy (wish I had remembered to take a photo) the home made pies were full of very lean mince, lots of veges and the pastry was thin, thin, thin, mostly cause we didn't have enough and so had to roll out the last of the puff pastry J had to fit all the pie cases. It made them taste even better, cause it wasn't bogged down with so much pastry. And then we served it with a beautiful salad of lettuce, tomato and avocado with a spinach dip dressing.

All in all it wasn't a bad week end, now it's Monday morning and again I'm off to the work mine :o) to be honest I feel worse this morning than I did Sunday but we will see how the day progresses, all set for the day of eating.

I am actually noticing that I need to work a little on my dinner and afternoon snack, if not careful I can easily blow my day. I am hoping this has mainly been due to not being 100% and is not the standard, but I do know I need to be careful and follow my plan.

So Happy Monday everyone, I hope we all have a great week and good luck Sarah on quitting the smokes :o) I know she can do it!!

I'm a Half Arser

That got your attention, didn't it :o)

There have been a few posts about on not being half assed about the lapband journey. Started by LBG and then commented on by Cat. And when I read Cat's post and what she said, I could actually feel the light bulb go off above my head!

She commented about the average weightless with the band is 50% and it suddenly dawned on me that that is exactly were I am at the moment. I have lost 40kg, I have just under that to get to my goal! I've lost 50% of my excess weight.

Now on its own, that is amazing, I could not be happier!!!

But as a whole, it is only half way to we're I want to be!

And yes, I have to admit to myself that I have been half assed on the band front. Have been for a while now. If I was not, I could have already been at goal. But I am not here to dwell on that right now. Right now I am dwelling on the things I have to change to correct this injustice I am doing to myself.

And I know I sound like a broken record, but sometimes you have to go through a lot of false starts before you get off the start line. All I can do is plan things out and do my best to stick to them and not be so half assed on my journey any more!

By the way, yesterday went quite well with the planning I did do, I just forgot to include planning for an afternoon snack, and so had a packet of crisps....see I need the restart already :p

And before I even read the posts this afternoon on the half ass bit, I had already bought a notepad to use for tracking. These apps and programs for your phone and computer are all great, but I have found I track best with pen and paper. So it is back to the basics for me in that regard.

Oh yeah, and it does look like exercise is very limited at the moment for me. I climbed the stairs at work and was out of breathe. So it looks like this cold or flu that is trying to knock me over has taken up residence in my chest. I don't feel too bad, but I am taking a lot of vitamins and to have been winded after climbing two sets of stairs tells me I am not capable for exercise right know. I can usually briskly walk up those stairs and another five cases near by them and not be winded at all, even in the current heat.

This Queensland wheather can be very confusing at times :o)

Now I am off. Train is almost home and I want to do a bit more catch up! I wanted the do the ten thing Thursday today, but I guess that will need to wait for another time. It funny how a subject can grab your attention and lead you on a whole new path!

Today is the First day

I am no longer trying, I am just doing!!

Planning has begun.

Meals are planned, exercise is planned, mindset is being faked until it is real :o)

I have even cancelled my gym membership, now this may not seem like a good thing for someone that is getting everything back on track, but it is if the membership is never used. I can't make any of the classes due to my work schedule, and it was starting to bug me, plus the walks I do after work mean that I don't have the time after work either. So I bailed on it, only sorry I didn't do it a few months ago. It really has been a waste of money for the past six months.

So today I have hard boiled eggs for breakfast, and left over stir-fry pork and veges with rice for lunch, and then dinner tonight will either be more left over stir-fry (depends on how it goes down at lunch) or it will be fish and salad. I have to careful of left overs, sometimes I have no problem and other times I just can't swallow them.

Thanks to everyone for your comments on my last post about my weight, the truth is I did let the fact that I was only going to weigh in every fortnight mean I could eat what I wanted. How silly is that, so I will give the fortnight weigh in a real try and try not to balk when I see a gain this Friday :p cause to be honest, I don't think I will be able to do enough good to undo the bad from last week.

Also, and I hate that I am typing this, but I do believe I am coming down with a cold!!

Middle of summer here people! But we have also had some major rain the last few days, and I got a little wet on Monday, woke Tuesday to the sore throat. Has made me think that the run down feeling I have been having the last week or two could very well be that my body has been trying to fight off the cold. Normally I also have a tingly throat or stuffy nose at the same time, but this time it has just been the tired run down feeling. Typical that I get sick as I get back on track, but I am not having that stop me from staying on track.

I will stay eating healthy (I usually just eat crap when I am sick), and if this thing hits me full force, than I will rest and recover, but I am not just going to give up on my walks, I may slow down, I may do shorter ones, but the fresh air and sunshine will do me good. As long as I am not too sick.

So there you have it, motivation: fake it till you make it :o)

Happy Wednesday everyone, I hope to report in tomorrow that all went well today :p

What am I Doing?

Yeah, it's another Monday morning and once again I am at a loss as to what i am doing to myself!

This weighing in very two weeks is nit working. I checked the scale yesterday and I have gone from 110.7kg at my last weigh in to 112.1kg! gauned and now i only have four days to loss that extra 1.5 before it goes on my weight loss record!

As much as I hate it, I am going to track food!! Exercise daily!!

In fact the only good tick on my report for las week is that I have gotten my water in everyday!

I can try and blame this on many things, I have been tired, I have hot... I'm just sick of the excuses I can manage to come up with, so I am not even going to try.

I have seen the Yoda philosophy on a few blogs lately and I like it :o)

I need to start living by this and stop crapping on about what I have not been doing.

Sorry for the pity party so early on a Monday morning! I just needed to vent and get myself out of whatever funk I have waded into!

I hope we all have a great Monday :o)

BYOC - it's been a while :o)

It’s Saturday in Australia! That means it’s time for BYOC – Bring Your Own Crazy! A little ditty you can participate in on Fridays to get to know your fellow blogger better and to give your blogging brain a break. Copy and paste to your own blog and ENJOY!!

Special thanks goes out to the fellow Jedi Kittens – Linda and Stef – for supplying Drazil with every single question this week!

No theme today – just massively random!

1. Do you have a favorite traditional “birthday meal”? If yes – what is it and what is the meaning behind it?

My birthday tradition comes from growing up, your birthday meant you got to choose the take out for dinner :o) I loved spare ribs, we didn't have it very often as it was on the other side of town and was a little bit expensive, so as a birthday treat it was great. The smoked ribs smothered in BBQ sauce with corn and potato on the side :o) brings back memories of fun drives and good times with my family!

2. If you’ve lost weight, has your style changed since you lost weight? Or what's your dream purchase when you do lose weight/hit goal?

I want my style to change, I sort of didn't have one when I was at my biggest, currently I do enjoy wearing jeans, but I really want to be able to wear skirts and dresses and look good in them. The actual style is still to be determined. I am actually thinking of hiring a stylist to help me find a style that looks good and that I like! But that will be closer to goal!

3. Pick one question of the following two to answer: Who is your favorite Muppet and why? Or who is your favorite Smurf and why?

I have to say Miss Piggy, she has always had the confidence that I always felt lacking :o)

4. When you buy a lotion or after bath spray or body spray or candle (not perfume) – what’s the “flavor” you always find yourself loving the most?

I have always been a fan of White Musk, loved that ever since I first smelt it at the Body shop!

5. Repeat question. Summarize your week in real life and in blogland.

Real life is - Blah.... I just can't get into any sort of routine. It almost feels like I'm getting sick, but not, I am just really run down and ever so tired!

Blogland is - Much better. I love the motivation and inspiration I read, I am just having a little problem getting that motivation over to the real world :p

Have a great weekend my friends :o)

Weekend Madness

Yeah, can some one please explain to me the reason why I can stick to a plan all week, but when the weekend comes, I revert back to Fat Sam and her inability to get off the couch???

I had a great Friday, weigh in went well. The scale read 110.7kg (244.1lb) that was down over a kilo from Christmas! Concidering the treats I ate with the girls. I was very pleased with that. Not to say that I went over board when they were here, but it was no salad and grilled chicken. Mostly because they don't eat salad and I really can't eat grilled chicken....but I do digress.

After work I went out for a drink and dinner with my walking buddy J, we ordered a vegetarian pizza, it was delicious and quite healthy. But then it kind of went down hill. We shared a dessert calzone, basically chocolate and strawberries in a pastry case, topped with icing sugar, more chocolate and some ice cream! While it was delicious, definitely not he best choice!

But I didn't regret it, it was a small treat and that was oing to be the end of it. Food wise it pretty much was.

The problem is I was going to go to the gym on Saturday after work, that didn't happen. Came home and watched some TV, went did a little shopping.

Sunday I planned to go for my usual Sunday morning swim with a squad team. Great exercise and a chance to do something a little different. Didn't make it. Just watched TV and did a little more shopping.

I can try and blame any number of things....but I won't. The truth is I made the CHOICE to not exercise. And for no other reason than the fact that I choose to sit on the couch instead!!!

Now me being me, I have given this some thought. And the main difference I can tell between Thursday and Friday when I was good with my choices of exercise and dealing with treats, and then Saturday and Sunday is the fact that I didn't really give any time to my blog on the weekend! Didn't post and didn't read your posts either.

Sarah commented on Fat Sarah still having some say on how she thinks the other day and I have to totally agree. Fat Sam still has a big hold on me. And while I am not yet at my goal like Sarah is, I now I will get there. I have come to the realization that the only thing holding be back is Fat Sam. And I really need to work that sh!t out. Because I do not want to let Fat Sam win!!

On another side note, I think I want to come up with another name for Fat Sam.... I'll think about that.

Okay, so I hope everyone has had a better weekend than me and here's to a great new week :o)

And the year begins

So the girls have left and I am on my way back to work!

The girls caught the train back down to Sydney and I don't think they will ever do that again, there was a post on facebook saying that a guy near Tori was jerking off and taking pictures of her, he was moved, but still that is disgusting!!!

I travelled a lot by train when I was younger and I never had anything like that happen. What is wrong with people today!!!

She says she is fine, but reception on the trains is not he best so she is going to call me when she gets home.

In other train news, I'm on a train in uniform and there are signal problems and the train ain't going anywhere at the moment! That is always fun, because even though I have nothing to do with the city services, we wear the same uniform so passengers always look at ou and want to complain. Fun times, the delay shouldn't be too long.

Now I said that I would be weighing in fortnightly, and tomorrow is that weigh in date. I am hoping for a lose from the weigh in before Christmas and hopefully I have it. While I have enjoyed some lovely food with the girls while they were up, I don't think I have over indulged. Treats we're eaten, but only in small quantities. And TOM has left for the month :p

And while very little exercise did take place, we didn't spend all our days sitting down, so at least I was moving, I have a walk with workmate J this afternoon and the only ting that can stop it is are noon storms, so here's hoping that doesn't happen. I haven't checked the weather, bu it does look a little overcast at the moment.

OMG I am talking about the weather!!

New topic! I have actually packed some snacks for my post workout walk today. You see, I usually have lunch between 1 & 2pm, finish a 5pm and we go for an hour walk. I then have to be on a train for another hour before I get home. If I am lucky, I can start making dinner by 7:30, but if I am the slightest bit late with the walk I miss my train and can't get started on dinner until at least 8pm. It does happen, I am hungry when I finish the walk and by the time I actually get home, if I haven't succumbed to the hunger and bought McD's or a pack of chips, I am usually over e hung pains and don't eat at all. So not healthy!!

So today I have snacks! Muesli bars, so not the healthiest, but better than nothing and I get the ones that are mostly nuts, so there is lots of protein in them. That will fill me up for the trip home and give me time to prepare a healthy dinner.

That's all I have for now. I am off to catch up on my blog reading! Have fallen a little behind from the visit with the girls, but I am sure you can understand :o)

Happy New Year

The new year is here and I have already worked a full day :o)

But it is all about working towards a great year so I don't mind.

I just wish I had more time to spend with my niece, but I have found that even though I have had to work for some of the time that she has been up here, we have still been having a great time. Shopping, beaches and hanging out.

I am even trying to help her get healthy and fit. She wants to loose a little weight, mainly she just needs to eat healthier food and stop the mindless snacking.. Like we all do :o) I am hoping that together (via Facebook) we will be able to help each other do the good things we need to do, like exercise and drink water, and limit the not so good choices, like take away every day and limit the flavored coffees she loves so much.

I know it is hard for her at the moment, as she is living with another family, and while they love her, she still feels a little out of place.

One bit of advise hat I did give her was to not weigh herself when she has her periods, I know it messes with my head every month as I usually gain weight and it can easily sent me into a spiral of bad eating. And I am following that advise too! So no weigh in this week, in fact I am going to try weighing in once a fortnight for the moment. Just to see how it goes. I can always change it again if I find it isn't working out. As my word says: it is my choice :o)

Alright, everyone have a great day and enjoy the beginning of what is to be a great year!!!
